About Amy:

Amy focuses her practice on civil and commercial litigation. She has a range of experience in litigation management, discovery and trial preparation. At Reilly Pozner, she has been involved in large scale discovery projects that gather information and develop facts for trial. Her specific experience includes extensive witness and fact preparation, taking and defending depositions and preparing written examinations. She has experience in drafting complaints, settlements and mediation, protective orders and engagement of clients.

Amy volunteers her time to an active pro bono practice that included the representation of nine same-sex couples who challenged the constitutionality of Colorado’s laws prohibiting same-sex couples from marrying and refusing to recognize the marriages of same-sex couples entered into in other states. Additionally, Amy has served as Special Counsel for the State Public Defender’s Office and in that capacity represented a Defendant in the Denver County Court.

Amy is active in her community. She has served as the Co-Chair and the Senior Co-Chair for the Colorado Pledge to Diversity, a group of law firms, corporate legal departments and government agencies who have committed to building initiatives to increase diversity and inclusiveness in the Denver legal field. Through this program, first year law students are selected for paid summer clerkships at member organizations. Amy is a member of Magistrate Kristen Mix’s Dream Team, a diversity pipeline organization that targets diverse, underprivileged and underrepresented students of all ages to help expose them to attorneys and opportunities in law. Amy is also involved in the firm’s internal diversity and inclusiveness committee. Amy volunteers as a mentor to first year law students and is an alumni mock interviewer at DU law school.

Before entering private practice, Amy served as a legal intern in the Office of Presidential Personnel in the White House in Washington, D.C.

Amy earned her law degree from University of Denver, Sturm College of Law, where she was staff editor of the Sports & Entertainment Law Journal and president of the Black Law Student Association.

While in law school, she interned for the Hon. Robert M. Russel of the Colorado State Court of Appeals and the Hon. Chief Justice Wiley Y. Daniel of the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. In these positions, she gained valuable research and writing experience as well as exposure to diverse areas of civil and criminal litigation.

Amy holds an undergraduate degree in biological science from Clemson University, where she played varsity soccer. After college, she was drafted to play women’s professional soccer for the Washington Freedom during the inaugural year of the Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA). Amy is passionate about youth sports and has remained active in youth soccer, coaching kids across the country through her own camps and clinics. She coached for nine years at REAL Colorado, a premier, nationally ranked soccer club.

Amy is on the trial team for these cases:

  • Representation of nine same-sex couples who challenged the constitutionality of Colorado’s laws prohibiting same-sex couples from marrying and refusing to recognize the marriages of same-sex couples entered into in other states.  McDaniel-Miccio, et al. v. State of Colorado, Denver County District Court, Case No. 2014-cv-30731.
  • When Lincoln Memorial Life Insurance Company, Memorial Service Life Insurance Company, and National Prearranged Services, Inc. went into liquidation, life and health insurance guaranty associations from 44 states stepped in to pay death benefits under insurance policies issued by the failed companies. These life insurance policies purportedly backed the prepaid funeral contracts sold through National Prearranged Services. Reilly Pozner represents the National Organization of Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Associations, various state life and health insurance guaranty associations, and a Texas Special Deputy Receiver in a multi-state effort to recover more than $600 million in losses from various individuals and entities that allegedly perpetrated a variety of frauds associated with the failed companies.
  • Reilly Pozner has been approved by the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy court to act as Lehman’s national coordinating and lead trial counsel in prosecuting claims against mortgage loan originators that sold Lehman defective loans, and to respond to billions of dollars in claims filed against the Lehman estate.
  • Obtaining a complete defense verdict for private equity firm as lead trial counsel in bench trial of claims by deal counterparty alleging promissory estoppel, unjust enrichment, fraudulent misrepresentation, and negligent misrepresentation – Woodard v. Elizabeth 86 Investments, LLC  et al., No. 2010-CV-287 (Elbert County, Colo.).
  • Defending private equity firm against claims by deal counterparty of breach of fiduciary duty and fraudulent misrepresentation.  This case settled favorably shortly before trial.  RMEI v. Tracker Resource Exploration ND, LLC et al., No., 2011cv5601 (Denver County, Colo.).

"At Reilly Pozner, teamwork is a core value, and everyone is dynamic and creative in their approach to solving problems for our clients. Pulling from my athletic background, I enjoy this approach and the service we are able to give our clients.”
