Shannon Coggins

Paralegal

Shannon plays an integral role on the firm’s trial teams, supporting attorneys with legal research, legal writing, preparation of exhibits and day-to-day case management at all phases of complex civil and commercial litigation.

Shannon is certified as a paralegal by Arapahoe Community College, where she graduated first in her class.  She is a member of Women in eDiscovery, and secretary of the Denver chapter.  Prior to joining Reilly Pozner, Shannon worked as an intern for the Hon. Juanita L. Rice of the Arapahoe County District Court.

Shannon also holds an undergraduate degree in business administration (with a marketing concentration) from Colorado State University.  Before switching gears to become a paralegal, she worked six years in guest service management positions at Vail Resorts.

Shannon is actively involved in these cases:

  • In a pharmaceutical mass tort action, thousands of plaintiffs are pursuing personal injury claims against GlaxoSmithKline, which manufactures Avandia—a drug for the treatment of Type-2 diabetes.  In several clinical studies, Avandia has been shown to increase the risk of heart attack, congestive heart failure and other cardiac-related deaths.  Joe Zonies represents over 100 of these plaintiffs and has been named to the plaintiffs’ steering committee for the case—which leads the litigation on behalf of all plaintiffs from across the country.
  • In 2006, Reilly Pozner brought a $35 million lawsuit on behalf of a major mortgage services company based in Denver. The lawsuit, which is currently pending in California state court, stems from the sale of more than 350 defective mortgage loans on the secondary mortgage market. Shannon assisted in a nationwide discovery project that established fraud and misrepresentation in the origination of the twenty-five highest value loans in the case by becoming knowledgeable about the discovery processes and procedures in multiple states. The case is currently slated for trial in the Fall of 2009.
